Forgotten Children of Haiti, a 501(c)3 not for profit organization, evolved in response to the urgent need to help maintain programs with a proven record of providing relief to children in distress. Our organization was officially established in January 1993 by a group of concerned individuals from various sectors of the community who have rallied under a common purpose: to improve the quality of life of Haiti’s poorest citizens, its children. Member participation is entirely on a volunteer basis and the non-profit group is strictly apolitical.

Our Mission FORGOTTEN CHILDREN of HAITI raises private funding in order to support the Cantine Notre Dame du Perpetuel Secours, one of the oldest institutions of its kind in Haiti, founded and administered by the “Daughters of Mary”. We also support the work of Father/Doctor Rick Frechette, St. Helene Orphanage and Hospital Saint Damien Chateaublond, operated by “ Nos Petits Freres et Soeurs”-an extension of “Nuestros Pequenos Hermanos (NPH) in Latin America.

The Earthquake After the catastrophic earthquake which hit Haiti on January 12, 2010, we have redoubled our efforts to help with the rescue. When we asked Fr. Rick what he needed, he said “everything”. So we organized a collection of medical supplies, non-perishable food and gently used clothing throughout the four boroughs and Long Island. The response has been outstanding. We have already shipped two 40 ft. containers full with the above items and preparing to ship many more. You can donate much needed medical supplies and food, especially rice, beans and oil as indicated by Fr. Rick. Shipping is costly, but we ensure the door to door delivery oft the donations to the Hospital without overburdening the staff.
St. Damien Hospital has suffered some heavy damage to the perimeter walls. Money will be needed to rebuild and repair.

The Notre Dame du Perpetuel Secours School in Bel-Air was completely destroyed and the Daughters of Mary have lost eleven of their teaching sisters in the collapse of the school and their residence. Those who escaped only have the clothes on their backs and have lost everything. FORGOTTEN CHILDREN of HAITI maintains its pledge to assist and support the sisters to heal and rebuild this vital center of education and nourishment for the community.
